Objectives

By the end of the course, students will be able to: 

  • Define a behavior. 
  • Understand methods of behavior observation. 
  • Understand methods of behavior measurement. 
  • Learn and practice observation and measurement skills for clinical practice and research. 

Syllabus

  • How to define behavior: topography and function. 
  • Definition and description of behavior. 
  • Measurable dimensions of behavior. 
  • Methods for measuring behavior: continuous and discontinuous measurement. 
  • Methods for discontinuous measurement: whole interval, partial interval, momentary time sampling. 
  • Methods for indirect measurement: permanent products. 
  • Measurement of behavior in clinical and research settings. 

Exam

The assessment will consist of a written exam and a practical exam (observation and measurement of behavior through video analysis).
