UNITÀ 30

Psychological Intervention in Groups

Practical courses (EX)

Objectives

By the end of the course, students will be able to construct and lead a group intervention starting from a given problem situation. They will be able to apply the tools learned theoretically in different contexts, selecting what is useful/relevant for a specific practical application or context.

Programme

The course provides basic knowledge of the various theoretical perspectives on groups and work groups, types of groups, and their various uses. It will explore the main methods for managing group processes, key group dynamics, and the roles and phases that characterize groups in various contexts. This knowledge is useful for designing, planning, and implementing psychosocial and clinical interventions in group settings. The group approach as an intervention tool will be explored from a theoretical, technical, and applied perspective, fostering learning from experience.

The course will be divided into two parts:

The first part will focus on theoretical frameworks, with reference to the main authors who have studied groups from both a psychosocial and psychodynamic perspective. This will be accompanied by exercises that will allow participants to experience different phases of group life, assuming the roles of leader, observer, or participant.

The second part will focus more on leading groups in their various fields of application. Group discussion will accompany the entire course, encouraging reflection and discussion among participants. Exercises, group work, role-playing, and examples will alternate with moments of reflection and theoretical exploration.

Students will therefore be assessed based on their active participation, their ability to observe and reflect, share, cooperate, and contribute to the development of skills.

Exam

Students will have to produce an individual work and a group project.

The individual assignment will focus on the personal knowledge gained through group activities, the level of competence acquired and areas to be developed in the future.

Evaluation criteria for the individual assignment:

– Completeness and punctuality in carrying out the assigned task;

– Quality of the assignment (critical analysis of participation in experiential activities and awareness gained regarding psychological skills in group settings).

Students must present a group project on an intervention assigned during the lessons.

The evaluation criteria for group activities are as follows:

– Completeness and punctuality in carrying out assigned tasks;

– Quality of the final products developed by the groups (theoretical depth; originality; analytical skills);

– Quality of written presentations (clarity of presentation; ability to synthesize and organize materials);

– Quality of the intervention hypotheses (degree of feasibility; theoretical soundness; intervention methodology).
