Objectives
The course is designed to guide students in the understanding and practical application of qualitative methodology within clinical settings, with particular emphasis on:
- The pivotal role of the researcher in project design, data collection, and analysis, with careful consideration of potential biases and anticipated practical implications;
- The application of qualitative methodology across diverse clinical contexts, including group interventions and psychotherapy;
- The development of competencies in designing qualitative research projects applied to clinical practice, fostered through group work and practical classroom workshops.
Programme
The course emphasizes the significance and contribution of qualitative research in clinical settings, with particular attention to the central role of the researcher in the design, data collection, and analysis processes, as well as the practical implications for the field.
Through a combination of theoretical lectures and group-based practical activities, students will be guided in understanding and exploring the applications of qualitative methodology in clinical practice and psychotherapy. Topics covered will include the qualitative assessment of change in psychotherapy, narrative research on clinical cases, and the qualitative evaluation of therapeutic processes and relationships. The course will also incorporate the presentation and critical discussion of scientific articles that differ in aims, methodologies, and practical applications, thereby providing students with a comprehensive perspective on the complexity and value of qualitative research in clinical contexts.
Exam
The final grade will be determined on the basis of two components: a practical mid-term assignment and a theoretical examination. The practical component will consist of a group project to be presented during class, while the theoretical component will take the form of a written examination comprising 30 multiple-choice questions.
