Introduction to qualitative methods II

Aims

The course aims to present the main methodologies of qualitative research in psychology and psychotherapy: Thematic Analysis (TA), Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA), Discourse Analysis (DA) and Participatory Action-Research (AR). The course will analyse theoretical assumptions, specific characteristics, possible variations and uses of each of these methodologies in clinical research and psychotherapy. Through the analysis of previous relevant studies, we will explore the contributions that these research methodologies can make to the clinical field.

Programme

The course will focus on the contribution made by qualitative research to the understanding of various issues associated with clinical psychology and psychotherapy. In particular, the course will explore in depth the following methodologies: Thematic Analysis (TA), Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA), Discourse Analysis (DA) and Participatory Action-Research (AR).

Exam

The evaluation will consist of a final written exam with open questions.
