CFU 3

UNITÀ 30

Paradigms of Digital Psychology

Objectives

The course is designed to introduce the foundations of digital psychology and cyberpsychology, with a focus on key dimensions of cyberspace (online environments and digital technologies) and technology-mediated behaviors, in order to examine the impact of the internet on human cognition and behavior.

It will explore various aspects of growing up and living “onlife” (Floridi, 2015), addressing topics such as online gaming, computer-mediated communication, online identity and relationships, telemedicine, and digital help-seeking. Particular attention will be devoted to a developmental perspective on dysfunctional online behaviors, including sexting and internet addiction, as well as to the phenomenon of hikikomori.

By the end of the course, students will have acquired a comprehensive understanding of the contemporary field of cyberpsychology, ranging from core theories and models to applied practices.
